Wichita Meets Hoboken at Maxwell’s when Logan Mize Hits the Stage

Maxwell’s, the storied Hoboken bar/restaurant/music venue, continues its resurgence with the popular Maxwell's Country Concert Series, which sees rising Country star Logan Mize hit the stage again on Thursday, July 21st. Mize, one of Country Music’s hottest young guns, has had a busy couple of years: Aside from appearing at Maxwell’s last year in a memorable performance, he appeared in that commercial with Hayden Panettiere you’ve seen about six million times, he appeared as himself in the TV show Hart of Dixie with Rachel Bilson, and he was recently named an official Kansas Brand Ambassador by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (his song Sunflowers is also an official state tourism song; if you didn’t know states had such things, you do now).
Put simply, Logan Mize might just be the hardest working man in music, and Hoboken’s lucky to have him return for what promises to be a rocking good time.
Of course, he won’t have to do all the work; the music will start in the front bar at 7:30pm with sets from New Jersey native Bri LoBue, area favorite Lauren Davidson performing with Cristian Castro, and Auggie Pajares. They’ll be tearing it up until the main room doors open at 9:30pm, so getting to Maxwell’s early for a few drinks and grub is possibly the best idea you’ve had all day. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
A Perfect Match
Logan Mize is probably the perfect match for Hoboken these days. Sure, he’s country—his family’s linked to Merle Haggard, and he’s opened for the likes of Lady Antebellum, The Band Perry, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Blake Shelton, Billy Currington, LeAnn Rimes and Hank Williams, JR., to name just a handful, and a listen to songs like Can’t Get Away From A Good Time, Used Up, and El Camino puts his sound firmly in the Nashville area—but he’s also a little bit rock. Born in Wichita, Mize grew up in Clearwater, Kansas listening to Tom Petty, Elton John, and Nirvana, among many other rock acts. “If it sounded good to me, I would listen to it,” Mize says. “I am a song guy. There is no bias. I like it all.” That gives his country licks an edge and a spice that fits in perfectly with the New Jersey attitude always on display at Maxwell’s—and shows that the booking agents there know exactly what they’re doing bringing acts like Mize into town. You can hear that attitude and raw, honest sound on his second album, Nobody in Nashville, which was famously produced with very little artifice. “It wasn’t auto-tuned or anything,” Mize says of the album. “The vocals are really raw ... I like it because it’s really simple. We didn’t hire the biggest names in Nashville. We kept it very grassroots.” Whether you’re already a Logan Mize or country music fan or simply like checking out new sounds, new songs, and having fun in your community, Maxwell's Country Concert Series on July 21st is an ideal stop. Not only does it offer an eclectic mix of superstar talent and local up-and-comers, but Maxwell’s recently debuted its new menu, which is getting rave reviews, so you’re kind of guaranteed an awesome foodie experience on top of cold beer, hot country licks, and a lot of fun. See y’all there!- Jeffrey Somers
