Why Hoboken’s Trader Joes is a Game Changer

Why Hoboken’s Trader Joes is a Game Changer
When I first moved to Hoboken, I wondered if I’d ever be able to afford fresh fruit again. I moved from Ohio where a pound of Rainier cherries are, at most, $4 per pound. At local grocery stores like Kings, they’re upwards of $6 or $7 (at the minimum). Now, I realize those are the “fancy” cherries so obviously they’re more, but even so, once Trader Joe’s rolled into town, my refrigerator has been filled with amazing produce like cherries, strawberries and blackberries, as well as affordable novelties like smoked salmon (um, $5 for smoked salmon?!) Long story short, Hoboken’s new Trader Joe’s is helping me live my best life, and here are five reasons it will help you live yours!
  1. It’s organized to perfection
When I first heard Trader Joe’s was coming to Hoboken, I had horrific visions of strollers, carts and people filling each aisle to the point you couldn’t actually shop. When I lived in Boston, that was the typical TJ’s experience. In Hoboken? Not so much. It’s spread out, and the checkout system is run like TJ Maxx, where you’re called to the open register instead of waiting for 10 people deep in line. It’s spectacular, efficient, and even during typically busy grocery days like Sunday, it’s a pleasant shopping experience.
  1. The food is everything
As mentioned, Trader Joe’s doesn’t just have good produce – I can afford it! Their fruit stays fresh for at least one full week, and tastes as fresh as it looks. My summer drastically changed when I pledged my allegiance to Trader Joe’s: I’m bringing homemade salads to work, and waking up to fresh blueberries and raspberries (and of course, Rainier cherries!) every morning.
  1. Sample, please
Nothing completes a shopping experience like a good sample – and Trader Joe’s has that and more. They offer shoppers a fresh new item (chips and ranch dip, new fruits, etc.) plus a cup of coffee. I’ll never turn down free java – or, let’s be real, free food – so this sample perk is a huge plus.
  1. Free parking
Trader Joe’s has a free parking garage connected to the store, making lugging home all those new goodies much more bearable. The best part? Parking is almost always empty! I’ve parked there on numerous occasion and can always find a spot within seconds. Isn’t efficiency just so wonderful?
  1. They reward you for saving the environment
If you use the Trader Joe’s reusable bags, you’re not only doing your part for the world – you’re also entered to win a Trader Joe’s gift card! As of late July, the prize is $30 off groceries. How cool is that?
