NYC Teen Author Festival @ Little City Books

Anyone who has ever had contact with a teenager—or who was once a teen themselves—knows that it’s often an impossible task to impress them. When it comes to any sort of pop culture or art, you’re more likely to get an eye-roll and a shrug than passionate excitement.
As far as cures for teen disdain go, the New York Teen Author Festival is pretty cool. Billed as “New York’s Biggest Young Adult Event,” the NYTAF kicks off this month, celebrating the writers who know the secrets of reaching a teen audience, and as a sign of both Hoboken’s status as unofficial borough of New York and the coolness factor of Little City Books, the Preview Day for this year’s NYTAF is being held at out own indie bookstore on Saturday, March 18th, from 4pm to 6pm at Little City Books.
Little City, Heavy Hitters
Seven authors will be at Little City that day to read from their bestselling novels, and hold a discussion with the audience about their books, their lives and careers, and anything else that comes to mind. In attendance will be David Levithan is the author of numerous YA novels, including Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List. Donna Cooner has published more than 20 picture books as well as the YA novels, Skinny, Can’t Look Away, and Worthy. Kass Morgan is the bestselling author of The 100 series. Laurent Linn once design muppets, and now has a debut novel out called Draw the Line. Marie Rutkowski is the author of The Shadow Society, the children’s fantasy series The Kronos Chronicles, and the The Winner’s Curse series. Adam Silvera is the author of the bestselling novels More Happy Than Not and History is All You left Me, as well as the forthcoming They Both Die at the End. Mary G. Thompson is a former naval officer and attorney, and the author of Amy Chelsea Stacie Dee, called a “gripping thriller” by Publisher’s Weekly. All Over the Area
There’s plenty more events going on all over the NYC area as part of the New York Teen Author Festival; after the preview in Hoboken the festival officially kicks off the next day, Sunday 3/19 at The Strand in Manhattan. You can view the full list of upcoming events that are part of the NYTAF at the official website (nyctaf.com/2017-schedule). Teaching kids to love words and literature is one of the best things you can ever achieve. The seven writers appearing in Hoboken on 3/18 are some of the most popular and talented writers working in the Young Adult arena today. If the teens in your life aren’t fans of them yet, they will be after getting a taste of their work, so head on down to Little City Books on Saturday, March 18th at 4pm and let the words do their magic. The event is 100% free, though be warned that seating is first-come, first-serve.- Jeffrey Somers
