New Eateries Springing Up in Hoboken

Recently, there’s been a lot of discussion about Hoboken’s restaurant scene, especially in comparison to Jersey City’s. While the consensus is that JC is—for the moment—winning in terms of variety, that doesn’t mean that Hoboken is lacking for places to grab a great meal. On the contrary, Hoboken’s dining options remain pretty robust—and new places are opening all the time.
It’s hard to keep up, especially when Hoboken’s byzantine permit system sometimes makes it seem like it takes centuries for a new place to finally open. Here are five new spots that opened recently so you can plan your weekend eating accordingly.
Hoboken’s a busy place, and it moves fast. Your favorite restaurant could be gone tomorrow—but never fear, new ones are opening all the time.
La Casa
54 Newark Street. A true Spanish restaurant (joining Lola’s on 14th Street as the only other truly Spanish restaurant in town), this place just opened. It’s BYOB and offers a mix of Tapas-style items and entrées on its menu, which covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The best part? They’re open 24 hours and offer free delivery until 3AM. If you’re thinking that 3AM Chuletas sounds pretty good, you’re my kind of people.
10th Street Pizza
1000 Willow Avenue. In a newly-renovated spot across the street from 10th and Willow, this new spot is more than just a pizza joint. While the menu is a bit limited right now as they get up and running, the intention is to offer up “peasant Italian” fare, the sort of hearty pasta meals that stick to the ribs, in addition to pizza.
Grubb’s Takeaway
418 Washington Street. As we mentioned when we stumbled on their soft opening a few weeks ago, Hoboken’s been waiting for Grubb’s to open for a long time. Now it’s finally here, offering heart American food for delivery or, yes, takeway. Subs, burgers, hot dogs, breakfast sandwiches—all the comfort you can handle is available at some pretty impressively low prices.
Napoli’s II
133 Clinton Street. If you noticed that Grimaldis closed their Clinton Street location recently and were sad, cheer up—it’s been replaced by a second Napoli’s location. After a full renovation, they’re finally up and running in the new spot. If you’ve never tried Napoli’s, please do—they have a lock on great thin crust pizza and their Italian entrées are solid as well. It’s BYOB and if the service is anywhere near as good as the Washington Street location, you’re golden.
The Turquoise Cup
720 Monroe Street. Right next to Shaka Bowl in the Monroe Center, The Turquoise Cup just opened, offering fresh-brewed coffee with an artistic twist, as they’re also an art studio. Offering regular classes for both kids and adults, you can pop in for a re-fueling session, enjoying Nobletree coffee. Then, once you’ve got your breath back, check out their events schedule for a cool, fun artistic class.
