Movies Under the Stars 2016 Schedule
Presented by the City of Hoboken, Projected Images of Hudson County, The Hudson County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs and Apple Montessori SchoolsThese FREE Outdoor Movie Screenings take place at Pier A Park, overlooking the beautiful Manhattan Skyline, located on First St. and Frank Sinatra Drive in Hoboken. Map and Directions | How to get to Hoboken Movies begin at 9:00 pm in June and July and around at 8:15 pm in August, unless otherwise noted below. For the best seating, come early and bring a blanket or comfortable low-back chair. You may bring a picnic, but alcohol consumption is not permitted and subject to a fine. Schedule for 2016Wed. June 8 – Creed (2015), 2h 13 min., PG-13; Golden Globe winner for Best Supporting Actor, Sylvester Stallone, returns as Rocky Balboa. Adonis Johnson is the son of the famous boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died in a boxing. Adonis wasn’t born until after his father’s death and wants to follow his footsteps in boxing. He seeks a mentor who is the former heavyweight boxing champion and former friend of Apollo Creed, the retired Rocky Balboa. With Rocky’s help they hope to get a title job to face even deadlier opponents than his father. But whether he is a true fighter remains to be seen. Wed. June 15 – Joy (2015), 2h 4 min., Rated PG-13; Golden Globe winner for Best Actress, Jennifer Lawrence, stars as Joy along with Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper and more. Joy has always been fascinated by creating things, but the lack of practical support has led to others making fortunes on ideas she had come up. Feeling buried by her life and despite being broke, Joy decides to make some changes in her life, and expects the unquestioning support of her family. Those changes include manufacturing a new product of her design. What she chooses this time around is a self-wringing mop. Joy battles the narrow minds of business executives marketing her product, find a way to get it into the homes of the American public in one fell swoop and battle a troublesome legal issue. Wed. June 22 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), 135 min., Rated PG-13; Academy Awards nominee for Best Visual Effects, Sound Editing & Mixing, Music and winner of the BAFTA for Best Visual Effects brings together the original stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Thirty years ago the Empire was defeated and now a new threat, the First Order has risen from the ashes of the Empire. A scavenger called Rey has come into contact with a droid that contains a map to the legendary Luke Skywalker, who has vanished. Rey and a rogue stormtrooper called Finn find themselves in a monumental conflict between good and evil, that will see faces old and new. Wed. June 29 – The Big Short (2015), 2h 10 min., Rated R; Academy Award winner for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay all-star cast includes Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling Steve Carell, Marisa Tomei and more. The true story of a handful of investors who bet against the US mortgage market in 2006-7. Through their own research they discovered that the US mortgage backed securities market was a bubble about to burst, and they invested accordingly. What they didn’t initially know was how structurally flawed the MBS system was, the level of corruption in the market…and the impact on the average person when the bubble burst. Wed. July 13 – The Martian (2015), 2h 24min., Rated PG-13; Golden Globe winner for Best Motion Picture and Best Actor, Matt Damon, stars as Astronaut Mark Watney who is presumed dead after a fierce storm during a manned mission to Mars and left behind by his crew. Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. 7:30pm – Performance by singer / songwriter Mya Hansen Wed. July 20 – Brooklyn (2015), 111 min. Rated PG-13. Nominated for Best Picture of the Year, Best Actress and Best Screenplay by the Academy Awards and Best Actress by the Golden Globes, Saoirse Ronan stars as an Irish Immigrant landing in 1950s Brooklyn. She quickly falls into a romance with a local. When her past catches up with her, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within. Mon. July 25 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens Mama Johnson Field 4th St. bet Jackson & Harrison St. Wed. July 27 – Jurassic World (2015), 2h 4 min., Rated PG-13; Winner of the Hollywood Film Awards for Best Visual Effects and nominated by the MTV Movie Awards for Movie of the Year, stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. A new theme park is built on the original site of Jurassic Park. Everything is going well until the park’s newest attraction, a genetically modified giant stealth-killing machine, escapes containment and goes on a killing spree. 7:30pm – Performance by singer / songwriter Mya Hansen
Wed. August 3 – Minions (2015), 91 min. Rated PG. Nominated for Best Animated Film by the BAFTA Awards, the Academy of Science Fistion, Fantasy & Horror Films and more, is voiced by an all-star cast including, Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton and more. Ever since the dawn of time, the Minions have lived to serve the most despicable of masters. Protective leader Kevin, teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob are recruited by Scarlet Overkill, a super-villain who, alongside her inventor husband Herb, hatches a plot to take over the world. Join Kevin, Stuart and Bob as they try to stop this villain and save all of Minionkind…from annihilation. 7pm – My Gym Hoboken will start the night with a free demo for children!

August 10 – The Peanuts Movie (2015), 1h 28 min., Rated G; Golden Globe nominee for Best Motion Picture, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, in state of the art 3D animation. Charlie Brown, the world’s most beloved underdog, embarks upon an epic and heroic quest, while his best pal, the lovable beagle Snoopy, takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron. From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day. 7pm – Preschool of Rock will start the night with a musical performance for the whole family!

August 17 – Inside Out (2015), 95 min., Rated PG; Academy Awards and Golden Globe winner for Best Animated Feature Film, is a story about when young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Guided by Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness are all the emotions that live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind. As they help her advise her through everyday life, turmoil ensues. Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive as the emotion conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.
