The Hoboken Comedy Festival is Everywhere

When you hear the word “festival” in Hoboken you naturally think of a crowd of sweaty folks jostling for position in lines for gyros, jewelry, and lemonade in the street. But there’s another kind of festival every year in Hoboken, the Hoboken Comedy Festival, and it’s literally everywhere over the course of the next week—it’s in our bars, our restaurants, and, yes, eventually in our streets.
The festival has an event scheduled every night over the next seven days, twelve shows in total. Buying tickets ahead of time on the website will save you $5 for each show, but tickets can also be bought at the door, so it’s a perfect last-minute activity for any night this week. And some of the proceeds will benefit the furry friends at the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City, making this a series of parties with a purpose.
The Schedule
Here’s the list of shows invading Hoboken this week: Monday 9/25: Kenny Garcia, Jonathan Randall, and a sepcial appearance by last year’s HCF winner Lawrence Deloach at The Brass Rail (135 Washington Street) starting at 8pm ($15). Tuesday 9/26: Emma Willmann, Jason Salmon, and Jared Freid at Arthur’s Steakhouse (237 Washington Street) at 8pm ($15). Wednesday 9/27: Ben Kronberg, Gracie Canaan, and Greg Stone at The Turtle Club (936 Park Ave) at 8pm ($15). Thursday 9/28: Harrison Greenbaum, Corinne Fisher, and Jordan Raybould at Taphaus (800 Jackson Street) at 8pm ($15). Friday 9/29: Jon Laster, Matt Pavich, Leah Bonnema, and Dan Frigolette (who jujst released his debut album, Naked and Amused, which was recorded at an actual nudist party in St. Louis, Missouri) at 7pm ($20), and at 9pm it’s Luis J. Gomez, Dan Lamorte, and Usama Siddiquee ($20) at Birch (92 River Street). Note: these are separate shows with separate tickets. Saturday 9/30: Bonnie Mcfarlane, Bret Druck, and Vincent James at 7pm ($20) and at 9pm Drew Michael, James Myers, Kareem Green, and Esther Steinberg ($20) at Birch (92 River Street). Again, separate shows, separate tix.The Block Party
On Sunday 10/1 HCF changes things up a bit, as the whole circus moves to Taphaus for a Block Party, complete with music, food trucks, and, of course comeday. The block party kicks off at Noon, then kicks into high gear at 2pm with the New Talent Show, at 4pm with Pets and Punchlines with Richie Redding, and finally the announcement of the 2017 Hoboken Comedy Festival Winner at 7pm. In other words, you can’t escape the Hoboken Comedy Festival this week, and you shouldn’t even want to. Not only is there plenty of hilarious talent on offer for cheap, but your tickets will be supporting a good cause, helping to launch a career or two, and maybe helping you forget about everything that’s going on out in the world for a few hours. See y’all on the circuit!- Jeffrey Somers
