Historic Downtown Jersey City Farmers Market Returns

The spring and summer seasons are always wonderful to look forward to. With school being out and schedules being less hectic at work, individuals have more time to enjoy the warm weather. The spring and summer call for hanging out at food truck festivals all the way to shopping and exploring at your local farmers’ markets, which gets us excited about Downtown Jersey City's Farmer's Market that opened for the season on April 30th. Mayor Steven Fulop along with members of the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District (HDSID) board made an appearance on opening day as well.
The Historic Downtown Farmers’ Market made its first appearance in 2008 with less than ten vendors and has turned into an extraordinary market. The market has over 25 vendors serving up delectable treats such as fresh fruits, vegetables, freshly baked empanadas, and homemade mozzarella.
Everything at the farmers’ market is done by Rachel Sieg, the Executive Director of the HDSID, said Maria Pimenidis, Executive Assistant to Sieg and the HDSID.
“Rachel has been with the HDSID for approximately 8 years,” said Pimenidis. “She definitely helped it grow to be one of the best Farmers’ Markets in Jersey City.”
This year’s farmers’ market opening day included a couple of new vendors as well as a giveaway of reusable tote bags to the first 100 visitors. New vendors participating in the farmers' market are Circle Brook Farm, Sweet Berry Bowls, Kimchi Culture, and Getaround. Ort Farms, Stony Hill Farm, Veso Farms, Just Delicious Kettle Korn, Hoboken Farms, Stellas Empanadas, JC Fish Stand, Bread And Spoon, Americas Kettle Corn, Busy Bee Organics, Bang Cookies, United Food Concessions, Gourmet Nuts, Taproot Organics, Milk'n Mama, Eat food CSA, Gourmet Nuts and Dried Fruit, Organic Olive Juice Co., Paolo's Kitchen, and Graze & Braise will be making a return at the market this year.
“All of the vendors are amazing,” expressed Pimenidis. “Between Bang Cookies, the various farms, Stella's delicious empanadas, Kimchi Culture- the HDSID Farmers’ Market covers a lot of people’s needs and we still have more entrepreneurs and small business owners interested in being vendors, so that's great.”
The Historic Downtown’s farmers’ market will be running from April 30 to December 20 every Monday and Thursday from 4 pm to 8 pm.
