Award-Winning Journalist Hosts Book Talk in Jersey City

Acclaimed Journalist and Fashionista Constance C.R. White makes an appearance at the Andcowork space in Jersey City to present her latest book, “How to Slay: Inspiration From the Queens & Kings of Black Style”.
"I want to take the message in "How To Slay" all over the country - to have everyone see and enjoy the images and be inspired by the information,” said White in regards to presenting her book in Jersey City. “When Curt reached out to me on Facebook, I was immediately interested."
White began her fashion journalism career as a reporter and editor at Women's Wear Daily, a publication considered to be the Bible of the fashion industry. She was also the executive fashion editor at Elle magazine, a style reporter for the New York Times and was the style director for eBay where she developed their first web-zine and began initiatives such as Seventh on Sale online and exclusive designer promotions. White was also the Editor in chief of Essence, where she spearheaded a book on Michelle Obama and covers featuring the first lady, Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Olympic gold medalists and LL Cool J. Currently, she is a contributing editor to Ozy.com and has contributed to The Chicago Tribune, The Today Show, The International Herald Tribune and Glamour magazine.
“How to Slay: Inspiration From the Queens & Kings of Black Style” launched in February 2018, which White is currently on a national book tour for. She was inspired to write the book due to the blossoming of afro-inspired fashion, art, culture, and the beauty in style. More than 20 photographers have their work featured in the book including images of top celebrities like Rihanna, Diana Ross, and Bessie Smith.
"In many places, I would look at runways and on the street and see the influence of Black communities,” said White.
At the event in the Andcowork space, White discussed fashion trends, celebrity influence, and what inspired “How To Slay” along with its appropriation with those who attended.
“The talk was really fun with a lot of engaging conversation,” she said. “I signed copies of “How To Slay” at the event, but books are available at the local bookstore and make a wonderful Mother's Day gift because many of the images turn out to be stunning photographs of beautiful mothers like Beyonce, Diana Ross whose daughter Tracee Ellis Ross tweeted about the book when it came out, legendary model Pat Cleveland who lives in New Jersey and whose daughter Anna Cleveland is now a successful model in her own right, and the late Josephine Baker, who adopted more than a dozen children.”
“How to Slay: Inspiration From the Queens & Kings of Black Style” is published by Rizzoli and available at local bookstores and online at Rizzoli.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and Urban Outfitters.
